ROMMEL: THE RISE OF THE DESERT FOX - Our theme this month is WWII Early War, and our focus point is General Erwin Rommel. Most WI readers will be familiar with 'The Desert Fox' from his exploits on the battlefields of North Africa, but in this issue we use Rommel's early war actions as a way to introduce you to this exciting wargame period.

FIRST CONTACT ON THE SAMBRE - You may well on your way to having the thousands of figures you need to re-fight Ligny, Quatre Bras or Waterloo, but how about stopping off along the way to game another Hundred Days battle which uses less figures but will still keep you on course? Sambre offers you a great opportunity to do just that!

ROMMEL SAVES THE DAY: THE BATTLE OF ARRAS, 1940 - The Germans push through Belgium and France in 1940 brought their forces to a climactic head-to-head with the French and British armies at Arras. This scenario and battle report recreates the action between the infantry tanks of the 7th RTR and their advance towards Wailly, and the artillery and infantry of the 7th Panzer Division.

NORTHERN WAR - NEW ZEALAND, 1845-46. - What do the New Zealand Maori Wars have to offer the wargamer? Were thy just another colonial walk over for the British? Not at all! Graham Burke makes a strong case for an often overlooked period and presents all the background and gaming vitals you will need to bring the conflict to the tabletop.

AIN JALUT, 1260 - Many miles from their natural stomping ground. Ain Jalut became the high-watermark of Mongel expansion. For the first time the Mongol hordes whose Empire covered half of Asia were decisively beaten. We explore the battle and the protagonists, and present a scenario for the re-fight.

THE BATTLE OF MARATHON - Recently described as "one of the most important battles in European history", Marathon was a clash of the titans between Greece and Persia and makes for an interesting tabletop battle.
