Front page: Kings Cross station at 7.30 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday 12 June, 1963, almost 21 years ago! A4 4-6-2 No. 60008 Dwight D. Elsenhower rests close to the buffer stops at Platform 4, having arrived with the overnight 1A75 sleeping car train from Scotland. Alongside No. 60008 that morning were three Deities; Nos. D9004 Queen's Own Highlander (1A71), D9006 Tne Fife and Forfar Yeomanry (1A73) and D9007 Pinza (1A77), all on similar overnight duties.This was one of the last occasions that a steam locomotive was to take charge of the heavy sleeping car expresses from Scotland, for on the following Monday the Summer Timetables came into effect and steam was banned from working south of Peterborough. Dwight D. Elsenhower was on the same train again on the Friday morning. 14 June, 1963, but the following day found No. D9019 Royal Highland Fusilier in charge of 1A75, and it has been a diesel locomotive in charge right up to the present day.
