PRESSURE ON: AS the deadline date nears, so the pressure begins to hot up. Our Minister of Transport asked for comments on the plan to raise the driving-licence age to 17 by the end of the month. In went the protest from the British Motorcyclists' Federation last week. Now comes the powerful statement (summary, pages 574 and 575) from the Industries' Association. And, on Sunday, RAC chairman Wilfrid Andrews gave an indication of the opposition to be expected from that quarter. Petitions Oh yes. Following the lead of the 59 Club, others are gathering signatures and I judge there will be at least nine submissions reaching the Minister within the next week or so. These are ideal ammunition since they represent opinion entirely free from self-interestÃÃ
