ON THE COVER - The pleasing photograph reproduced on the cover was taken by Mr. W. A. C. Smith of Glasgow. It shows ex-Caledonian Railway, Pickersgill 4-4-0 engine No. 139, later B.R. No. 54446, on a Glasgow-Greenock train at Kilmacolm station. Since the photograph was taken in August 1954, this engine has been scrapped, but the picture is appropriate in view of the illustrated description of Kilmacolm station printed elsewhere in this issue.
