Welcome:
They say art reflects life and while one of the main focuses of this title has always been how successfully, or not, various forms of transport have been scaled down by toy and model manufacturers, likewise as MC's editorial team has gradually been reduced in size over the years (a scenario that's been playing out in all manner of businesses and not just in the publishing industry) we've also faced the challenge of making sure the wheels don't come off the bus, so to speak. Luckily, Julie, MC's designer, and I have the support of a fantastic team of freelance contributors and the best and most interactive readership we could ever wish for. I am, therefore, full of admiration for all those who on a voluntary basis regularly commit their free time to editing model club magazines, for the most part flying solo and with absolutely no budget at their disposal.
I recently learnt that Will Roe, the editor who has spent the past 18 years in the hot seat at the Coventry Diecast Model Club (remarkably celebrating its 45th anniversary this year), has finally decided it's time to hand over the reigns, and the constant stream of deadlines, to fellow club member Maz Woolley (the two will, however, first be working together on a special bumper anniversary issue that CDMC members will receive this June). Will and I regularly correspond via email, so I found it typical of his sweet and humble nature when he messaged to explain how thrilled he'd been that the Club's Chairman, Mick (Mixxy) Russell, and Maz had between them converted an ex-Tober Models James 3 wheeler van into a 1920s' Di Dimascios ice cream van (a nostalgic favourite of his) for him as a retirement gift. He even included some photos, which I know he won't mind me sharing with you.
Call me sentimental, but what makes this model even more adorable is that it's all about appreciation of the fact that the most generous gift we can give anyone is our time.
Enjoy your read.
