COVER PICTURE - A 1906 White steam car seen at Melbourne Steam Traction Rally. Fitted with a two cylinder compound steam engine with Stephensons link valve gear, superheated steam at 760^ is supplied by a monotube boiler at a pressure of between 200-1000 psi. The vehicle takes about ten to fifteen minutes to start from cold, consumes fuel (pure petrol) at about 10 mpg and water at about 8 mpg and has a range of about 100 miles. The car has a top speed of 50 mphwith hood down and a two speed gearbox is fitted, but is only used on the most severe grades. The body is wooden framed with aluminium panels and the total weight is 1 ton 6 cwt.
