A Glynn Guest design for a stand-off scale (semi-scale) model based on the Royal Navy cruiser HMS Sheffield. Two-sheet plan first published in Model Boats magazine for a 49" long electric-powered model for radio control
About twenty years ago I plucked up the courage to build a model warship larger than a destroyer in my favoured 144:1 scale. The end result was a model of the light cruiser HMS Dido which at 42 inches length proved to be a handy size in both practical terms and sailing. The success of Dido led me to build a model of the earlier HMS Penelope as the full size vessels shared similar hulls. This model also had excellent characteristics, and thoughts promptly turned to another cruiser model - let me introduce you to HMS Sheffield
