Cooksley on its history Dear Sir...Letters and comments from readers Your Questions Answered Model and Kit News ON THE COVER - Top: On March 19, 1989, a prototype of the world's first production tilt-rotor aircraft a€ the revolutionary new V-22 Osprey a€" flew for the first time at Bell Helicopter Textron's Flight Research Center at Arlington, Texas. The V-22 remained in helicopter mode, as planned, throughout the nearly 15 minute flight. The first lift-off was made from a slow taxi followed quickly by a run-on landing. The aircraft then lifted into a hover and performed a variety of control motions. Inset: Business is booming for the European airliner builders and here are impressions of two notable sales successes a€" the Airbus A330 for Cathay Pacific, an order placed in April; and the colourful paint scheme of TAT who ordered eight Fokker 100s and optioned four more in Feburary.
