Cover: Our cover picture is from the camera of this month's 'Lineside Cameraman' a€" Mike Esau. During the final years of steam working, many of the surviving locomotives were in a very dirty condition, as illustrated by this picture. Even the crisp light and the autumn tints only serve to emphasise the neglected external condition of Southern Maunsell 'U' class 2-6-0 No 31799, which is pulling away from Betchworth with a train from Redhill to Gulldford and Reading In 1965.
