Cover: The 'Britannias' completed ten years of service on Class '1' trains in East Anglia, as featured in our article 'The East Anglian Pacifics' in this issue. Their last regular turns out of Liverpool Street finished with the Summer 1961 timetable, but the GE line retained 'Britannias' at March shed into 1963, and they were used on freight workings to the north over the GN/GE Joint line. The RCTS ran a commemorative special on 31 March 1962, to mark the passing of the 'Britannias' in the Eastern Counties. The train ran from Liverpool Street to Norwich, then to Dereham, Swaffham and Thetford. At the last-named location, the March-based 'Britannia' No 70003 John Bunyan. used for the main-line sections, took over for the return to London, via Cambridge. No 70003 is seen awaiting departure from Thetford.
