Trains of Thought
Steam around every corner - Midland reminiscences around Derby in the 1950s and 1960s - Following his 1950s' memories of Derby (Friargate) and the former GNR lines from that station which appeared in an earlier issue of this magazine, S. R. Hollis now recalls the 1950s' and 1960s' scene over the former Midland Railway lines in and around Derby.
Well Tank Farewell - Jeffery Grayer recalls a visit he made to Wadebridge in August 1962 at the close of the long reign of the Beattie Well Tanks, and remembers their final triumphant return to London in the following December, and charts their subsequent fate.
Simply the best! - W. J. Verden Anderson's Scottish Steam - The late W. J. Verden Anderson's name has always been associated with his excellent photographs of steam in action, especially in Scotland, and to celebrate the publication of his new Scottish Steam album, recently published by Ian Allan's, we provide here a 'taste' of some of his Scottish scenes not included in the book, compiled by one of the book's authors, Brian Stephenson.
Liverpool Street and the Indian Summer of East Anglian Steam - Geoff Goslin takes a look at the former Great Eastern Railway's London terminus of Liverpool Street from its early days until the decline of steam-hauled trains to East Anglia from this busy station.
The Bala & Festiniog Railway - Stanley Jenkins provides a potted history of a Great Western line in North Wales which left the Ruabon to Dolgelley line at Bala Junction to join up with the slate-carrying narrow-gauge Festiniog Railway at Blaenau Ffestiniog.
