If you're celebrating a birthday or anniversary this month, you're in good company! In this issue we're saluting, in our own little way, two 50th anniversaries - the launch of what was to become founder Sir William Lyons' favourite Jaguar, the XJ6, and the broadcast of the first ever episode of Gerry Anderson's Joe 90 on our television screens (and thanks to ITV Productions, we've got five Joe: 90 Collector's Edition DVD box sets up for grabs, so, if you fancy spending a few hours reliving your childhood from the comfort of your sofa, you could be onto a WINner!
In fact, if you have fond memories of the '60s and 70s you're in for a bit of a treat nostalgia wise, because, as you can't fail to have noticed on our front cover, we've also got a fascinating feature on the Bond Bug. Now, if we were putting this issue to press just a little bit later, I would be able to share a bit of trivia and tell you how much a 1:1 scale "restored to better-than-new standard" example went for at the RM Sotheby's September 5 sale. Probably suffice to say, though, that seeing the catalogue estimate is £20,000-£30,000, the new 1:18 scale version from DNA Collectibles will be infinitely more affordable and won't get you into nearly as much trouble with your half! I don't think a car could get more screamingly '70s' and, while the model is sure to prove a real talking point in your display cabinet, I'm not so convinced many people would want the real thing parked on their drive.
Beauty, however, is very much in the eye of the beholder and it would be a very boring world if we all shared the same opinions and tastes. That's clearly something Oxford Diecast took into account when it offered us the incredibly generous and exclusive to Model Collector prize (see page 33) for the draw we're running to accompany this month's 25th Anniversary Oxford Diecast Special. I'm also very grateful to Lyndon Davies (Chairman), Eloise Davies (MD) and Adrienne Fuller (Product Manager) for taking time out of their very busy schedules to answer all the questions I posed in the interviews that I hope you will find both entertaining and insightful.
