Welcome
It was great to see the fortunes of the Hornby Group looking up this September, as share prices soared following the announcement that licensing agreements with motion pictures company Warner Bros and publisher DC Comics have been signed. It was also revealed the first officially licensed model railway, Scalextric and Corgi Warner Bros/DC Comics products will be debuted in pre-production form at the London Toyfair in January 2019. What's not known yet is whether the initial wave of releases will include any static diecast models aimed at the adult collector. Because, while, naturally, when it comes to Corgi we automatically tend to think Vanguards, OOC, Aviation Archive, etc, the brand also, of course, incorporates toys. Opportunity knocks, but it also presents the Research & Development teams for the collectable ranges with a serious challenge. Numerous classic and modern film related models have, and continue to be, released into what is, without doubt, an extremely competitive sector of the market. Hornby's CEO, Lyndon Davies, has a well-deserved reputation for cherry picking and nurturing talent, but coming up with bullet proof ways of recouping investment in new tooling or, perhaps more realistically in the short term, exciting new roles for existing castings, is certainly going to test the team's mettle.
I wonder, then, what suggestions MC's very own panel of experts (that includes you, by the way!) would make? Answers on a postcard, please! In the meantime, in this issue we've got some 'star car' content sure to raise smiles on the faces of Beach Boys fans everywhere, and a whole lot more besides.
Enjoy your read!
