ADMIRAL'S CUP 1985 - Social and racing spirits ran high as eighteen national teams, with a strong showing of One Tonners, met at Cowes to compete in the three inshore and two offshore races for the 1985 Champagne Mumm Admiral's Cup, culminating in the notorious Fastnet. Bad weather and numerous protests combined to add tension and unpredictability, but the Germans won through with a clean and strategic campaign to carry off the Cup for the second time running. A SPECIAL ADMIRAL'S CUP PARTY - The fabulous J-Class yacht Velsheda was the venue for a special cocktail party hosted by Corum, Boat International and Mappin & Webb to celebrate two momentous occasions: the presentation of the Corum Trophy to the RORC, and the second birthday of Boat International. The champagne flowed and merriment abounded.
LAKETAHOE CLASSICS - The 13th Annual Lake Tahoe Concours d 'Elegance evoked poignant images of a bygone era with a spectacular gathering of eighty-five antique and classic boats, set amidst a superb location of snow-capped peaks and deep blue skies. Report by Chris Caswell.
TRANSPAC 1985: THE YEAR OF THE SLEDS - The TransPac is a legend and an obsession which takes competitors from the Southern California coastline via long Pacific swells and spinnaker slides to the palm trees and white sands of Hawaii.
